Tomorrow, at Dawn

By Victor Hugo โฑ 1 min
Tomorrow, at Dawn

Tomorrow, at dawn, when the countryside whitens,
I shall set out. You see, I know that you wait for me.
I shall go through the forest, I shall go past the mountains.
I cannot stay far from you any longer.

I shall walk with my eyes fixed upon my thoughts,
Seeing nothing outside, hearing not a sound,
Alone, unknown, my back bent, my hands crossed,
Sorrowful, and day for me shall be as night.

I shall not look upon the gold of evening falling,
Nor the sails in the distance going down toward Harfleur,
And when I arrive, I shall place upon your grave
A bouquet of green holly and heather in bloom.
